Brief description

Protection of the intellectual property of the U.M. (U-Mentalism) technology portfolio: prosecution of the granted U.M. patent and its international family, and preparation and filing of new patent applications arising from the company's research.

Objectives
  • Secure and extend the protection of the U.M. patent family.
  • Protect new inventions developed by the company through new patent applications.
  • Strengthen the company's intellectual-property position for commercial exploitation.
Results achieved
  • Prosecution and defence of the first U.M. patent — granted in Portugal (No. 116408) — and of its international family (WO 2021/235960; US 2023/0177636 A1; EP 4154212).
  • Four new patent applications: one in the OCR field (November 2024; published as US 2026/0134706 A1, EP 25 214 682.4 under examination), two in the AUV/UUV field (September 2025), and one on a modular systems architecture (provisional application, INPI, 2026).
  • Peer-reviewed paper on the OCR technology (Entreacte) published at IEEE ICFSP 2026, Toulouse — doi:10.1109/ICFSP70244.2026.11665227
